For cousin Greer, who used this colorful phrase to describe a small
country road in Pennsylvania that she found by mistake one snowy winter
day. i don't believe in pure accident but, like all of us, have known
'missed turns' which, by no readily observable design, led me to lessons
- sometimes joyous, sometimes painful, sometimes both - that i needed to
learn. Accidental roads. We've all been there.

Accidental Road

guess i missed my turn,
cause I am not where i had planned,
since i'm where i am, i might as well enjoy,
i am certain to see something
if i'll only take it slow
i'm certain to see something
on this accidental road

riverside and sycamore,
dappled sunlight on the road,
i might have missed it if i'd been where i had planned
i am always seeing something
where i did not mean to go
seems I'm always seeing something
on these accidental roads

trying times and blinding rain,
there's trouble on this trip sometimes,
but i can believe that there's a reason for it all,
i am always learning something
that i really ought to know
i am always learning something
on my accidental roads...
