In six years of full-time music,
the thoughtful, reflective and inspiring message of singer/songwriter
Allen Levi has made a tremendous impact in countless
lives and in various settings.
Allen was born in a small Alabama
town and grew up in Columbus, Georgia, one of five children.
He graduated from University of Georgia in 1978 with a
degree in English, attended law school at UGA, and then
practiced law in Columbus with a firm from 1980 through
1990. It was then allen moved to Edinburgh, Scotland
where he obtained a masters in English literature.
He returned to Columbus and part-time law practice in
1992, and in March 1995, devoted himself to singing and
songwriting as a full-time vocation.
He began playing guitar and songwriting
in high school. In college, allen became a solo
performer who played various venues and, in the past 15
years, has played throughout the country for numerous
and varied groups of all ages and descriptions, including
the Georgia Leadership Counsel, the Synovus Corporation,
Henderson-Walton Women's Clinic, the Georgia Broadcasters
Association, the Southern Academy of Oral Surgeons, the
Charlotte (NC) Leadership Forum and Callaway Gardens.
He also performed during opening
ceremonies for the 1996 Olympic Games in his hometown
of Columbus and also was commissioned to write and perform
"Rivertown," a celebration of Southern life,
which he presented to sell-out crowds at the historic
Springer Opera House in Columbus.
Allen has also performed nationally
with fellow folk singer/songwriter David Wilcox and current
CCM recording artists Bebo Norman, also a native of Columbus,
and Caedmon's Call. His work has been featured on
Georgia Public Radio, Wide Angle Radio, Larry Burkett's
"Money Matters" radio program and syndicated
radio program "The Rick and Bubba Show."
Additionally, allen was the featured musician for Young
Life's National Staff Conference (January, 2000), and
also created and performed in a music video for Young
Life based on his song "They Are Kids."
Equally as popular in both Christian
and secular settings, allen has played in a variety of
venues, filled with both Believer and skeptic alike.
allen became a Christian in 1978 and, since then, has
been involved with a number of varied ministries as a
teacher, musician, committee member and volunteer, including
Young Life, Campus Crusade for Christ, Habitat for Humanity,
Fellowship of Christian Athletes, House of Mercy, Briarwood
Christian School, Focus on the Family and others.
He has been the featured musician in ministry programs
with Dr. Tony Evans, professor/speaker Tony Campolo, founder
and president of Habitat for Humanity Millard Fuller and
popular authors Ken Gire, John Eldridge, Brennan Manning
and Philip Yancey.
At his core, allen believes that
the gift of life is never complete until one has knowledge
of and relationship with the God of life, Who made Himself
known to us in the person of Jesus Christ. "The
deep desire of every person for 'unfailing love' can only
be satisfied through God's provision in the work of Christ
at Calvary. Life is most richly lived 'to know Him
and make Him known.'"
