Most Of My Heroes (4:13)

This is a song about some young adults whose lives encourage me to change for the better.

In the summer of 99, I worked for a month at Young Life’s camp property in British Columbia, a breathtaking place called Malibu. As is always the case when I work with the YL camps, I was amazed by the willingness of high school and college students to volunteer their time and energy so that high school kids could enjoy "the best week of their life". This song was written as a gift to the ones who I worked with at Malibu but is equally applicable to the thousands who, each summer and through the year, share their lives in the ministry of YL. It is meant as a reminder that there are "no ordinary people."

Most of my heroes are people who have little

All of my heroes are people who give

They are people i will very gladly follow

All because my heroes all know how to live

it is upward and inward, then outward, it seems they’re always reaching

They value the small things they’ve been called to do

Most of my heroes are very simple people

All of my heroes look a lot like you

All of my heroes are rich in imperfection

All of my heroes are richer still in grace

They are people who are weak and bruised and broken

But they know somehow they’ll make it through the race

And if you brag on them like i’m trying to do

i can guess what they would say to you

Thanks a lot, and blush as if it’s just not true
