Hurricane
of '96
In the hurricane of ’96, people had to go outdoors,
Cause all the power got knocked out and t.v.’s would not work no more
People strolled around the town, families even went for walks,
Kids could not play videos and neighbors for the first time talked
People sat in open air, put their chairs out in the night
Laughed and learned to listen well in a world of candlelight
Bart invited everyone before the freezer meat went bad
Held the biggest barbecue the neighborhood has ever had
But then the power came back on, people all went back indoors
Hid behind their silver screens, now’s a neighborhood no more
Lord, if we should lose our way, spare us not a bit of pain
Blow Your mercy down this way, send us one big hurricane
(with special thanks to Bart and Victoria "Elvis" Scarborough,
two who i adore.)
