Road
that Brings me Home
i’ve been gone too long, it’s good to know you missed
me
i feared you might forget me in the month i was away
Just to be at home, just to know that you are with me
Is reason to declare a holiday
Lots of late, late nights, lots of butterflies and coffee
i missed the morning quiet and sunrise in the pines
It’s the price i pay, and i do it very gladly
To share these simple songs of yours and mine
i
am thankful for the roads i get to travel
Thankful for the faces and the highways i have known
But i love that place where hardtop turns to gravel
i’m thankful for the road that brings me home
Every day i’m gone, i think about you often
People always ask about you everywhere i go
i wish sometimes that i could take you with me
But travel’s is not your cup of tea i know
Tell me now, old boy, how you been
What’s been going on in this sweet little town
We’ll just take an easy stroll around the farm
and talk awhile
i’ll be here until next Tuesday rolls around
i am thankful for all the roads i get to travel
i’m thankful for the people and the places i have
known
but i love the sound of my wheels on dirt and
gravel
i’m thankful for the road
