As you might have read elsewhere on the site, I was fortunate to accompany Greensboro, NC Young Life over Spring Break on a work week in Mexico. For more on the trip, check out the newsletter on the site.
As we began our week in Mexico, Bill Goans, who heads up Young Life's work in Greensboro and is a dear friend, shared with us some thoughts about the prophet Samuel, to whom God spoke when Samuel was a boy (I Samuel 3).
Bill shared a short poem about that event in the prophet's life. Here it is:
"Oh, give me Samuel's ear, O Lord,
An open ear, alive and quick to hear
Each whisper of Your word:
Like him to answer at your word,
and to obey Thee first of all."
Sammy's Ear
This song was written after Bill shared his thoughts with us.

His noisy world spins much too fast, makes it hard at times to hear
Fills our hearts with restlessness and makes the way of truth unclear
Don't we need a quiet place, where crowded souls can find retreat
Somewhere we can see God's face and hear His whispers soft and sweet
Father Give me Sammy's ear, father give me David's eye
Father give me Jesus' heart, bigger than the border sky
Father I am asking You, teach me love the way You do
Change me 'till I learn to live a life that's full of You
Sammy heard the voice of God in the whisper of the night
David saw His fingerprint in a million dots of light
Jesus looked into our heart, saw our hunger, saw our need
Came to bring us home to God, came to show how love would be
BRIDGE
When I hear a weeping soul, let me hear a call to care
When I see a hungry child, let me see my Jesus there>
Father give me Sammy's ear, Father give me David's eye,
Father give me Jesus' heart, bigger than the border sky
Father I am asking You, teach me love the way You do,
Change me 'till I learn to live a life that's full of You.
REPEAT CHORUS
